Jonathan Harker rides into the Carpathians to close a property sale and works out too slowly that Count Dracula casts no reflection, crawls face-down out of a window and down the castle wall like a lizard, and never means to let him leave. That is the famous part, and it is finished by chapter five. The rest is a Victorian procedural: a schooner driven aground at Whitby with a corpse lashed to the wheel, Lucy Westenra sleepwalking, blood transfusions, fifty boxes of Transylvanian earth traced through London property records, telegrams from Varna. Van Helsing comes from Amsterdam to name the thing, in English so mangled it is work to parse at speed.
Dracula is 160,700 words. At an average adult reading pace of 300 words a minute that is about 8 hr 56 min, or roughly 6 hr 42 min if you read quickly and 13 hr 24 min at a more deliberate 200 words a minute.
